After the war, in 1919, he returned to England to accept the Wollaston Studentship at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, and to resume work under Rutherford<br \/>\n<br \/>\nThe neutron was effectively discovered in 1932 by James chadwick leading to the ideas that the nucleus was in itself was not indivisible, let alone the atom as previously thought by the Greeks. His work mostly involved the bombardment of Beryllium atoms with Alpha particles, much in the likeness of Rutherford's gold foil work. What he found was that a ray emerged from the chemical reaction shown below. <br \/>\n<br \/>\n9Be + 4He ---&gt; liberated *1n* ray<br \/>\n<br \/>\nThe ray was comprised of particles which, he exposed to both magnetic and electric fields. These particles had no response to either.He concluded that the particles did not have any electrical charge.
